Do you judge a book by its cover? You’re not alone. Scrubs magazine browsed through the top 200 Amazon.com books about, by and for nurses to select the most awesome book cover graphics for review. We waded through a huge number of boring covers featuring pills, syringes, IVs and nondescript medical personnel, and eventually found a few gems in the mix. Most of the books with interesting covers actually look like they have good innards, too. Perhaps you’ll find a few from our list to add to your own library.

I Wasn’t Strong Like This When I Started Out: True Stories of Becoming a Nurse
There were several covers that featured the Lone Ranger motif (who was that masked nurse?). But this one gets props for being glossy and cool instead of looking like another boring stock photo. The reason for the concealed facial features becomes apparent when you realize that this isn’t a book about just one nurse. It’s a book about every nurse. It could be a book about you.

“This collection of true narratives reflects the dynamism and diversity of nurses, who provide the first vital line of patient care. Here, nurses remember their first “sticks,” first births and first deaths, and reflect on what gets them though long, demanding shifts and keeps them in the profession.”
