How to Handle Multiple Choice Questions
There are two types of scenarios that NCLEX takers dread the most:
1. The multiple choice question with two equally good answers
2. The multiple response question
Here’s a tip for scenario #1: When you’re faced with two seemingly good answers, have it clear in your head why the wrong answer is wrong before making your choice. However, Billings warns, “Don’t spend too long on it. Move on.”
For scenario #2, multiple response questions, she advises, “Look for patterns, because several go together. Rule out what doesn’t belong and rule in the ones that do. Understand how the ones that you choose relate to each other and how ones you don’t choose aren’t relevant.” Multiple response is all about finding the pattern of what works together with the question asked and what sticks out as blatantly wrong. Find the pattern, and you will find your answer.
