Secrets from an NCLEX insider—revealed!

What Exactly Is Going to Be on the Test, Anyway?
Billings’ first hint about how writers should approach the NCLEX is regarding the test plan. She states, “The test plan is the framework that is used for the questions. From that, we test those major concepts.” Luckily for students, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) makes the test plan free for public viewing. It outlines eight major categories on which the questions are based. Use these categories to organize your studying.

Examples:

  • Management of care examines case management, client rights and informed consent.
  • Safety and infection control looks at safe use of equipment, home safety and use of restraints.
  • Health promotion and maintenance can cover the aging process, newborns and health screenings.
