Yoga has been growing in popularity for years. Not only is it a great workout and helps people strengthen their bodies, it’s also effective for strengthening the mind and relieving stress and tension. Actually, yoga is so popular that it now has its own month to celebrate how awesome it is. September is National Yoga Awareness Month, a time when yoga enthusiasts raise awareness about the many health and mental benefits that yoga has to offer. The campaign also focuses on offering the guidance and tools necessary for individuals to take the first step in improving their lifestyle and overall wellbeing.
To make this happen, organizations have teamed up to make National Yoga Awareness Month 2017 one of the best so far. With free yoga classes and other special events, organizers hope to inspire more people to begin practicing yoga.
How Did National Yoga Awareness Month Get Started?
National Yoga Awareness Month was created in 2008 by the Department of Health and Human Services once it became apparent that the popularity surrounding yoga was here to stay. The decision to designate the month of September as a time to celebrate yoga also came on the heels of a 10 City Yoga Health Festival Tour that featured educational classes, exhibits, entertainment, and lectures on the value of practicing yoga and integrating it into your day-to-day life.
