4. Some nonfood item that everybody can use or enjoy. Back in the day, one Nurses’ Week roster of goodies included five-minute hand massages for every nurse, provided by the occupational therapy staff and a few members of the administrative staff who had trained as manicurists. That was the best gift ever. Also back in the day, we each got two brand-spandy-new retractable gel pens and a new ID holder. I still have my ID holder, though the pens are long since used up, and I still remember that somebody actually put some thought into the gifts that year.
