2. Enough well-looked-after support staff. Too often, the people who clean the rooms or transport the patients or fix the broken lights are ignored. They already don’t get paid enough and have backbreaking work to do; ignoring them not only adds insult to injury, but makes safe and effective patient care that much harder. They’re also the first people to be laid off in tough economic times, which means that I end up getting paid hinty-bazillion dollars to clean a room or fix a broken door in my unit. That’s a silly waste of time and resources.

Agatha Lellis
Agatha Lellis is a nurse whose coffee is brought to her every morning by a chipmunk. Bluebirds help her to dress, and small woodland creatures sing her to sleep each night. She writes a monthly advice column, "Ask Aunt Agatha," here on Scrubs; you can send her questions to be answered at askauntieaggie@gmail.com.
