Weight loss – it’s all in your mind

You’re probably wondering what in the heck I’m referring to. You’re also probably silently saying under your breathe ‘Losing weight is all about fatty foods and exercise!?’
Better yet, the greatest rebuttal I’ve heard to this comment is “My weight is not my imagination!’

So, all in your head. Here’s what I mean. Your success, your failure and your maintenance of your health (including your weight) is all about how you interpret it. Are you happy and content? Are you always striving for better? Or maybe it’s the opposite – you actually think about your weight and your health every waking moment of your day, every day of the week, every week of the year (some call it an obsession).

I always like the quote “Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re probably right”. (Not sure of the original source)

It’s all in your head – figuratively speaking.

We all make the mistake of setting a goal of wanting to ‘look like’ or ‘be like’ some celebrity, fashion model, or athlete. I wonder why we do that?

I’ve said it many times, but I’ll say it again,  it’s all about you. YOU. No one else. You have to be happy and content with YOU. You and YOUR weight, you and YOUR health. In the end, all the credit goes to you and your efforts (or lack there of). You have to be happy with yourself BEFORE you start your journey — not basing your happiness on what you want to be. Be happy with who you are — not who you want to be.

Being physically healthy and maintaining a healthy weight you are happy with is of course mostly physical. But if you are not mentally healthy and happy with who you are, and what you have – you’re going to drive yourself nuts being unhappy and dissatisfied shooting for a goal that is unreachable simply because it’s not you.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t have lofty goals. By all means shoot for the stars, but make sure it’s a healthy goal. Not something that becomes an obsession, or worse, a source of resentment and negativity.

Make your health and your weight loss goals healthy and a happy part of your lifestyle. You’d be surprised how much more attainable and how much more quickly you can reach your goals with a positive attitude and a clear mind.
