The woman who brought her own furniture and other unforgettable patients

3. The woman who brought her own furniture

Not content with just having her own sheets on the bed, this patient brought in a bedside table, a couple of reclining chairs and a wardrobe in which to store her clothes and furs. I don’t know about your hospital, but mine isn’t set up for redecorating. Two recliners and a wardrobe barely left room for the nurse, and the bedside table was just icing on the cake.

The worst moment was when I found her attempting to replace the shower head in the bathroom with one she’d brought from home. If you’re well enough to manage simple plumbing jobs unassisted, you’re well enough to be discharged, and discharged she was.

Go ahead. Beat me on this one.
