Enduring Earthquakes
If you’re a nurse near a fault line, brace yourself for the possibility of a shaky situation. In the midst of earthquake tremors, your nursing wisdom will keep you firmly grounded. Just as you proceed with caution when caring for an unstable patient, be extremely attentive driving across uneven terrain post-quake.
Recommendations:
DO slow speed, and pull off to side of road when able if driving when an earthquake begins.
DO remain in the car with your seatbelt fastened and parking brake set until the shaking stops.
DO be wary of mudslides and rockslides.
Contraindications:
DON’T stop under overpasses or on bridges.
DON’T stop near power lines or trees.
DON’T forget that aftershocks may follow the initial quake.
