Thank you mentors!

This post is coming to you directly from the break room at the hospital I work at. It’s been a super busy day, and it was nice to finally get a chance to sit and eat. It’s also been a day full of great learning experiences and lots of teaching coming from none other than our awesome nurses. I just wanted to take a second to write this as a “Thank you!” to those nurses out there who take a second out of their busy days to help us learn.

Whether we’re in the hospital as student nurses following you around, or as nurse’s aids giving you a hand for the day, thank you for your extra time to explain a procedure, or help us understand a little more about a patient and what’s going on with them. You’re the ones who teach us in the most dynamic way, helping us at every chance, even when it’s just a small reminder about monitoring the IV site, or how to collect a specimen. Not only does it help us learn, but it also makes us feel like part of the team, something essential to learning and practicing good nursing skills.

So to all of the nurses who’ve given me little lessons today, and always — THANK YOU! I appreciate it so much. To all of you out there who help out when you see a student or an aide and give them more than your report entails so that they can understand what is going on — THANK YOU! And to all the nurses out there who don’t mind getting dirty with us, helping with baths and diapers- THANK YOU!
