Weight Loss
With the challenges of working long shifts and grabbing food when you can when you’re busy—and maybe not eating food that is the healthiest—you may have found a few more pounds on your frame than you’d rather have. Of course, nothing beats a healthy diet and regular exercise to help regulate your weight, but there may be a few things you can do to help lose the pounds without resorting to some of the more dubious fad diets.
One such weight loss helper may be green tea—more specifically, Chinese green tea. Green tea is processed differently from the black tea most North Americans are used to. Both teas come from the same plant, but black tea is fermented, green tea is dried. The drying process is also shorter and the green tea keeps beneficial chemicals, such as catechin, intact. The flavor is also lighter than the flavor of black tea.
It’s believed that green tea can help you burn more calories (as found in a study published in the November 1999 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition) than you might normally. Also, green tea without any additions (sugar or milk) is a very low-calorie, refreshing drink that helps you hydrate your body.
