Anyone who’s been watching the fashion scene for more than 20 years knows that what’s old eventually becomes new again. Fashions you remember from your days in high school inevitably get reinvented and marketed to a younger generation as hip and trendy. If you’re feeling nostalgic for days gone by, you can turn back the clock with the following scrubs styles inspired by the last 60 years of fashion.
1950s
Ultrafeminine fashions are popular once again in scrubs tops, but Cherokee is one of the few manufacturers also offering a traditional white skirt. For a classic ensemble, match the boxer skirt with a structured, button-front weskit (waistcoat) top and Mary Jane-style nurse’s shoes from Skechers. For a modern twist, choose a solid top in a rich jewel tone like purple or turquoise.
1960s
For a ’60s effect that’s a real blast from the past, try a macramé top from the “Au Naturel Woman” line by Baby Phat. Or if you’re feeling less like a flower child and more like a cool cat, bring back memories of the era of the Nehru jacket with a jewel collared warm-up jacket. It’s missing the signature low banded collar, but you can fake it by wearing a turtleneck T-shirt underneath.
