Specialty certifications do play a role in determining salaries. The 2011 salary survey conducted by Advance for Nurses magazine indicated that nurses who have specialty certifications earn approximately $7.36 more per hour than nurses with no specialty certifications. Which certification gives you the biggest salary boost? According to PayScale, it’s “Critical Care,” with certified RNs typically earning $20.16 to $39.47 per hour. Other specialty certifications top out somewhere between $35 and $37 per hour.
