RN wins contest with mobile app concept!

A few months ago, Anna Wroble, RN, somehow found time in her busy schedule–which includes homeschooling four young children and working in a neonatal intensive care unit at St. Rose Dominican Hospitals — to create a mobile app for smartphones and tablets.

The app, which is currently being developed, allows parents to follow the progress of their children in neonatal intensive care. This interactive app also lets parents track appointments with doctors.

The app idea came to Wroble’s mind when she heard about the “Green Light Challenge,” a contest in which Dignity Health — the nation’s fifth largest hospital chain and owner of St. Rose — asked employees at 40 hospitals for ideas that will improve patient care.

Wroble’s app concept was so well received that Children’s Miracle Network matched Dignity Health’s $50,000 backing grant for the idea. The developer says he has shown versions to doctors at the Mayo Clinic and response has been positive.

There’s so much potential for mobile apps to improve healthcare for patients as well as healthcare workers – just check out Scrubs’ own Code Happy app just for nurses! What kind of app do you think would improve healthcare?
