Rating hospital cafeterias

Hospital cafeteria food  has never had a reputation for being gourmet, but is it too much to ask that it just be decent? Turns out a lot of cafeterias are doing their best to shrug off the “bad food” mantle. In a recent survey on Yahoo, foodies from around the country weighed in on the best hospital meal they’d ever tasted.

One woman championed the sandwiches at Washington Hospital Center in D.C. The spaghetti at Children’s Hospital Boston got a good review. The meatball sandwich with melt ed provolone cheese at Methodist Hospital in Arcadia, Calif., got a rave. If you happen to be at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, try the taco salad. Give the Reuben sandwich a go at Children’s Health System in Birmingham.

The food at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s cafeteria got kudos, too—though the contributor also seemed happy about the McDonald’s on the premises. One guy loves everything at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences cafeteria. “If it wasn’t such a hassle to park, I would eat there every day,” he said. Another Yahoo-er quipped, “I heard the Jell-O from General Hospital is pretty darn good.” One can only imagine.
