Nursing student does CPR for the first time, saves life

Second-year nursing student Eva Friend had just arrived at Washington Elms, an assisted living facility in Bennington, when another nurse yelled for her to come around to the back porch. Once she arrived on the scene, she saw that resident Jerry BeShane was slumped over in a chair.

Upon realizing that he didn’t have a pulse, she began CPR on him. Though trained in CPR, she had not yet used the technique in real life. BeShane was resuscitated at least once, but kept crashing multiple times. Friend continued her compressions and was able to stabilize him.

A rescue squad came shortly after and took BeShane to the hospital. He was able to return home that same day–and made sure to thank Friend for her efforts!

Have you ever performed CPR in order to save a life? How often should nurses brush up on their CPR skills? Hit the comments and let us know!
