Inhalers
As nurses, we frequently give patients medications through inhalation, by mist with forced air or through pumps. Ever wonder what nurses used in the late 19th and 20th centuries before these modern techniques were available? Inhaler collectors can tell you. The devices were primitive compared to what we use now, but nonetheless impressive. Some inhalers were ceramic, while others were made of glass or metals. One of the larger collections of inhalers is housed in the Wood Library Museum of Anesthesiology.
