Nurse lives with one kidney and zero regrets

0

Merri Lazenby is perfectly content living with one kidney, particularly since her other kidney provided another person the chance to live.
A year-and-a-half ago, Lazenby donated her kidney to Ray Andrade, who suffered from diabetes and had been on the waiting list for a kidney for about a year-and-a-half. Lazenby and Andrade both worked at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, Ill. as a nurse and a security guard, respectively. One day Lazenby overheard other nurses talking about the Andrade’s dilemma, and when she found she was a match, she offered to donate.

Today, both are living healthy lives, and Lazenby says she has no regrets about her decision and is unconcerned about the health risks. In fact, she was one of 10 featured runners in last year’s Chicago Marathon, which she ran with no health complications.

Do you know any inspiring organ donors?
