New DAISY Foundation Video: The Many Voices of Compassionate Care

For nearly 20 years The DAISY Foundation has recognized and celebrated the highest levels of compassionate care demonstrated in health care facilities all over the world.   Healthcare professionals offer and witness extraordinary patient care every hour, every shift, every day, often unaware of the impact made and the lives touched forever.

new Video produced by Cherokee,  a DAISY Foundation Industry Partner, movingly tells the story of just a few of the more than one million nurses who have been nominated to receive The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Care since 1999.

The DAISY Award (DAISY is the acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System) was created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes whose family was deeply touched by the nurses who cared for him in the last weeks of his life.

Bonnie Barnes, co-founder and President of The DAISY Foundation, said their family knew immediately that they “wanted to do something to say thank you for the gifts nurses give their patients and families every day, just as we had experienced.”

Since its founding in 1999, The DAISY Award has grown to more than 3,000 healthcare facilities and schools of nursing in 19 countries.   Cherokee was one of the first Industry Partners to sign on to support the DAISY Award.

“When I met Bonnie and Mark Barnes and heard the stories of so many lives touched and changed, I knew our team at Cherokee would rally to support DAISY’s important mission,” said Mike Singer, Chief Executive Officer. “Cherokee has been serving the medical community since the mid 1980’s and we salute the outstanding work healthcare professionals do each and every day.  Producing this video was truly a labor of love for us and just another important way for us to honor healthcare professionals.”

The video tells the story of extraordinary nursing through diverse voices, as well as from a family member who witnessed first-hand the power of nursing. It is an emotional reminder that nursing is not just about tasks and technology, but also importantly about the human connection. The kindness and compassion of nurses are critical to patients and families, making a meaningful difference in their lives.

“The DAISY Foundation is deeply grateful to Cherokee for producing this video,” said Barnes. “The foundation’s sustainability is testimony to the need in the nursing profession to continually recognize nurses for what they do every day. We hope that current and future nurses will watch the video that celebrates compassionate nursing and be inspired, validated and proud.”
