Networking tips to help you land a better job II

Polka Dot | ThinkStock

We recently passed along some tips about networking via Alicia-joy from Transitions in Nursing. In that post, Alicia-joy focused on thinking about how to use who you already know to help you get ahead and snag your dream job. In part two, she focuses her energy on showing you how to get close to those you want to know. Check out some of her advice below:

Here are a few suggestions for adding new people to your network:

  • Attend conferences
  • Join relevant nursing associations
  • Create a relevant Meetup group (www.meetup.com)
  • Attend networking events for health care providers/fellow nurses

When you attend these events, make the decision ahead of time to introduce yourself to people there. If you are introverted and just getting your feet wet with this whole networking thing, commit to introducing yourself to just one person. Find out what they do and how you can help them, if possible.

How about using the internet?

Social media is often a fantastic way to connect with people who you would like to know. For example, if there is an organization that you know you would like to work for, do some research and find out if they have a social media presence.

To read the rest of her advice, head on over to Transitions in Nursing. Then let us know your own tips for networking your way into a better job in the comments below!

Check out the first and final parts of this series!
