National Nurses Union Opposes Proposed Healthcare Reform Bill

The newly established National Nurses Union, the largest union and professional organization of registered nurses in the US, is on record as opposing the Senate healthcare reform bill being championed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
The National Nurses Union has cited 10 major objections to the bill, including:

  1. The individual mandate to buy insurance, with insufficient cost controls on premiums
  2. No challenge to insurance monopolies
  3. Questions about affordability
  4. The excise tax on comprehensive insurance plans, which may encourage employers to decrease benefits or pass costs on to employees
  5. Loopholes in bans on exclusion for pre-existing conditions
  6. Minimal oversight on insurance denials of care
  7. Reduced reproductive rights for women
