National Health Center Week: Celebrating America’s Health Centers

The upcoming week of August 13 through the 19 is known nationwide as National Health Center Week. These seven days shed light on the valuable health centers that help communities across America to be as healthy and happy as possible.

The Importance of America’s Health Centers: Creating Healthier Communities

More than 25 million Americans depend on America’s health centers for affordable, convenient, and genuine medical care. An impressive 9,000 healthcare centers across the continental United States and U.S. territories keep local economies and populations alive and thriving. Patients of all health conditions, income levels, and insurance levels can come to America’s health centers without fear of being denied the quality service they need. United States health centers are of central importance to the American people, because every patient that walks through the doors of their local health center is treated with equal importance.

Seven Days to Express Gratitude to Dedicated Health Center Professionals

The National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) holds special events during National Health Center Week to celebrate all of the hardworking medical professionals that make America’s healthcare centers successful. To draw special attention to the priceless care programs and advanced services American healthcare centers provide, the NACHC has picked a theme for each day of National Health Center Week:

  • Sunday, Aug. 13, Elected Officials Day: On Elected Officials Day, health centers will show their appreciation and connect with elected healthcare officials.
  • Monday, Aug. 14, Health Screenings Day: Health Screenings Day will raise awareness about important health screenings provided by healthcare centers, such as blood pressure tests and mammograms, which save countless lives every year.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 15, Public Housing Health Centers Day: Public Housing Health Centers Day gives thanks to public housing health centers. Without these community care facilities, residents living in public housing developments wouldn’t be able to access the medical services they need.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 16, Healthcare for the Homeless Day: Homeless patients have great difficulty receiving healthcare services. Healthcare for the Homeless day will recognize health centers that provide care for homeless patients.
  • Thursday, Aug. 17, Agricultural Worker Health Day: Agricultural Worker Health Day will celebrate the generosity of American health centers that help agricultural and migrant farm workers to receive medical services.
  • Friday, Aug. 18, Consumer Board Member Day: Consumer majority governing boards provide communities the opportunity to ensure health centers serve their specific health needs. This day will highlight the value of consumer board members who work hard to make sure health centers meet community demands.
  • Saturday, Aug. 19, Children’s Health Day: The children of America need healthcare as valuable as the bright futures they have ahead of them. Children’s Health Day will express gratitude in fun ways to America’s health centers that enable our young ones to have the best childhoods possible.
