According to HealthDay, new research is showing the USA600 strain is partially resistant to antibiotics and is calculated to be five times more lethal than other strains. MRSA is known to be transmitted in clinics and hospitals and continues to pose a threat to the health of patients and hospital staff alike.
Dr. Carol Moore, the study’s lead author and a research investigator at the Henry Ford Hospital’s division of infectious diseases had this to say:
“In light of the potential for the spread of this virulent and resistant strain and its associated mortality,” she said, “it is essential that more effort be directed to better understanding this strain to develop measures for managing it.”
