With the most recent numbers showing the national unemployment rate at 7.3 percent, it’s clear that many are still struggling to find work. If you are in the midst of a job search yourself, this is probably all too clear.

However, there is some good news for nurses.

Job site Indeed.com reports that “registered nurse” currently is the most-hiring occupation in its database. As of last week, there were 186,625 RN postings on the site, according to Forbes.com.

“Due to the aging baby boomer generation, preventative care and health services are in high demand,” said Michael Steinerd, director of recruiting at Indeed.com. “As a direct result, registered nurses in particular have consistently landed on our list of top hiring occupations in recent years. With increased regulation from the government and insurance companies, and lower payments from Medicaid and Medicare, doctors are refusing to take on additional patients. As a result, nurses have increased their medical scope, hence the demand for nurses has risen.”

Of course, the amount of openings varies by area, speciality and a number of other factors. If you are looking for a job, we wish you the best of luck and hope that one of those many openings will soon have your name on it. Nurses, what do you think? Are you seeing more nurse jobs available in your area? Or are nurse jobs tough to come by where you live?
