Let’s start with movies. Movies keep us on the edge of our seats while forming relationships with the characters on screen. Some of the greatest movies feature doctors, nurses, patients, and offer a great storyline. A few movies that immediately come to my mind are; Patch Adams, John Q, City of Angels, and Philadelphia. Now, not all movies portray doctors and nurses in a realistic sense, but who’s to say it still is not good entertainment?
For the past few years, television dramas based on hospitals or healthcare providers has really grown. E.R. is one of my all time favorite television dramas. This show gave viewers at home a glance at what doctors and nurses must deal with on a daily basis. Not only did it offer insight, but the characters had real human flaws. Often doctors are viewed as god-like and perfect, but E.R. did a great job making the characters as real as possible. Another one of my favorites is Grey’s Anatomy. Ok, so not all hospitals have a tight-knit circle of about eight doctors who all have tangled love stories. This is what I like to call the medical soap-opera of our generation. There is rarely an episode that I am not both laughing and crying. Good T.V. people!!
If you’re looking for something a bit more true to life then my advice would be to tune into the Discovery Health Channel. DH provides actual medical documentaries and factual programming about healthcare. If you’re looking for something a bit more true to life then my advice would be to tune into the Discovery Health Channel. Believe it or not, I have learned a thing or two from DH.
