Laughter is the best friendship!

So one of my best pals is staying with me this week and we were reminiscing about how we met (at work over a Sir Mix-A-Lot song) and it made me start thinking about how many wonderful people I have met because I am a nurse. Some of my best, best friends I met at work and even though many of them have moved on to other types of nursing or even other states, I am still in close contact with them. There is something about being thrown into a room with a screaming, spitting patient that will bond the most distant of souls.
My pal and I were laughing hysterically about some of the funnier moments that have happened to us over our nursing careers. Like catheterizing long “lost” urethras, enemas gone awry, funny old ladies who can’t stop telling stories, inanimate (sometimes animate!) objects stuck in, on, or around body parts. Or if we had a dollar for every time someone told us they had “rolling veins” or were a “hard stick”; only to then fine a bulging, beautiful vein smack in the antecubital worthy of an 18 gauge.

Next time you are at work, look around and count your blessings in the form of nursing pals and colleagues: No one will ever laugh as hard, cry as hard, or understand as much as your fellow nurses.
