Junior fit scrubs styles for newer nurses

Are you a young nurse—or just young at heart when it comes to fashion? Junior fit scrubs are all the rage right now in the scrubs industry. If you see other nurses at work looking trim and trendy, they’re probably sporting a junior fit style. Here are some of the key features of this type of scrubs.

Fitted Fashion
These scrubs are cut to be a little less roomy than other styles. If you buy the right size, you shouldn’t feel like you’re stuffed into them. But they will be fairly form-fitting and follow the contours of your body. You can expect to see center back elastic on the scrubs tops to make them nip in at the waist. Even the warm-up jackets give you more shape with princess seams, while pants may cup your knees with carefully placed darts. Pants tend to have a low rise and hug the thighs before flaring out at the calf. One style even mimics the “skinny jeans” look that’s popular right now. If you don’t feel comfortable with a body-hugging fit all over, you can always mix and match a standard top with a junior fit pant or vice versa.

Flexible Fabric
One thing that most of these scrubs have in common is the fabric blend. Instead of being a straight cotton or poly-cotton blend, junior fit scrubs have a bit of spandex tossed in the mix. It’s just enough stretch to make sure tops and pants give a little as you move. This breathable, flexible fabric feels like sportswear—and it’s not surprising that some of the styles are very sporty. Working as a nurse can be a physically demanding job, so having scrubs that resemble workout gear rather than pajamas is a step in the right direction. In pants, gathered elastic all the way around the waistband is a nonstarter. Instead, you’ll see flat elastic bands with plenty of grip or cargo pants with drawstrings, belt loops and back elastic.
