Is this my pinning ceremony or my wedding?

Graduation is only a few days away, but with everything that needs to get done, it’s hard to believe it’s ever going to get here! I get this massive knot in my stomach every time I think about the pinning ceremony. The cap and gown graduation is one thing, it’s all fun, and just going through the motions of the graduation process. but my school doesn’t even read off our names as we go up to receive our diplomas (or rather… our diploma covers). But I’m not nervous about that. That’s a day for celebrating and having a good time with friends and family.

That should be what the pinning ceremony is all about, too. But when you’re planning it, there are so many emotions involved, it’s hard to think about just being able to enjoy the day.  My co-president, my committee and I have been working for MONTHS to make this one day happen for all 54 of our students and all – get ready – 450 guests! Phone calls, emails, Beluga chat sessions on our phones, trips to Michaels, calls to our venue and florists and AV set-up.  I’ve mentioned this before, but this is like a full blown wedding. All we’re missing is the bride and groom!

I know it’s going to go just fine, but there’s soooo much pressure! Oh, and not to mentioned that I’ve got only a few days left and have yet to write a speech! How do you capture the last three years in just two-to-five minutes and really captivate everyone? That’s the next challenge. For now, I’m just taking it day by day.  Almost there!

Ani Burr, RN

I'm a brand new, full-fledged, fresh-out-of-school RN! And better yet, I landed the job of my dreams working with children. I love what I do, and while everyday on the job is a new (and sometimes scary) experience, I'm taking it all in - absorbing everything I can about this amazing profession we all fell in love with.
