A nurse in North Carolina won big after playing the lottery, thanks to a store clerk’s suggestion.
Jasmine Warren, a travel nurse from Winston-Salem, said she stopped at an Exxon on Stratford Road in Winston-Salem to buy a Pick 3 lottery ticket, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.
“The clerk said, ‘You better get some Cash 5 tickets too,’” said Warren. “So, we did.”
She was one of two people who matched five of the six numbers drawn on Dec. 12. They split the jackpot.
Warren told lottery officials that when her husband called to tell her she won $470,130, she “just started screaming.”
“He called me and said, ‘Jasmine, you’ve got to get up. I think we hit the jackpot,’” she said, according to the lottery.
Warren won $332,618 after tax, according to the lottery. She plans to spend a good chunk of it on renovating her new home. She told lottery officials that her husband is getting a personal trainer license, so they might put some money toward a personal training business. Winston-Salem is about 100 miles west of Raleigh.
