Healing Hands Founder Chairs This Year’s Excellence in Nursing Luncheon

Bansi Lakhani has become an instrumental force in the healthcare industry thanks to his organization Healing Hands. He created the mission-based company to give back to the nurses and doctors that cared for him when he was in the hospital. Today, they manufacture some of the best scrubs on the market to help providers excel at their jobs.

The Good Samaritan Foundation was proud to have Lakhani chair this year’s Excellence in Nursing Awards Luncheon. He took the opportunity to say thanks to all the brave men and women in scrubs.

A Transforming Experience

In 1997, Bansi suffered a major heart attack when he was just 43 years old. The experience was a wake-up call in more ways than one.

He realized that without the love and care of the nurses on staff, he wouldn’t be alive today. That’s when he vowed to give back to the “angels” that brought him back to health.

Bansi found a way to help using his experience as a clothing designer for some of the largest retailers in the industry. He was convinced that ill-fitting scrubs made of scratchy material weren’t benefiting the nurses on staff. He went on to design fashionable scrubs made with stretchy, breathable fabrics to help nurses stay comfortable on the job. They came with extra pockets for holding medical supplies and elastic waistbands that stay up without pinching the body.

Healing Hands is proud to carry out that legacy today. It’s become one of the largest mission-based uniform suppliers in healthcare.

Bansi eventually enlisted his son Sid to join the company. The two of them have been dedicated to improving medical scrubs ever since.

“I believe Healing Hands is my way of saying thank you to our healthcare heroes,” he says.

Paying Tribute

In honor of his accomplishments, Bansi was chosen to chair the 2021 Excellence in Nursing Awards Luncheon, which took place on Oct. 12 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Houston, TX. The event honors nurses who are leaders in bedside care, offering extraordinary and compassionate care and service. Providers are nominated by their peers for their passion, leadership, mentorship, and service to the Texas healthcare community.

The ceremony honored hundreds of nurses that demonstrated excellence in their chosen fields, including those serving in small and large facilities. Some were recognized for their administrative leadership, while others were honored for their work as clinical educators. Recipients shared their stories of compassionate care and explained what it means to them to serve as a nurse.

Bansi was also on hand to give this year’s keynote address. He reflected on his own experiences in the hospital and his decision to give back to the community at large.

“Thank you, Good Samaritan Foundation, for inviting me to be a part of the ‘Excellence in Nursing’ event. My passion and love is to make nurses happy. Nothing compares to what they do every day. Their excellence and leadership strengthen the hopes and spirits of all the patients they touch,” he said.

“Being involved and seeing all of the work the Good Samaritan Foundation is doing is really at the core of our beliefs and the foundation of Healing Hands.”
