Good news/bad news: Tip cards fight bullying, volunteers resist new scrub colors

There’s good news and there’s bad news. Which do you want first? Here’s what happened this week in news for nurses.
Good:

In response to the significant issue of bullying in the workplaces of the healthcare industry, nursesbooks.org, the publishing program of the American Nurses Association, is selling tip cards that offer ways to combat bullying. Sold in 25-card packs, each card has one side dedicated to bullying issues that can arise, and the other side offers effective solutions to the situations. In the comments, let us know how you’ve dealt with bullies, and what you would do to combat this situation if you were in charge.

Bad:

OK, so this might not be bad news for the nursing industry as a whole, but many of you probably can relate to the frustration being felt by nurse volunteers in Farmington, N.M. About a year ago, the San Juan Regional Medical Center switched the color of volunteer scrubs from pink to blue, upsetting many of the volunteers – including some that have volunteered for over 40 years. On the good news side of the equation, many of the pink scrubs that were returned have been used to make quilts, tablecloths and pillows, among other items.
