The Governor of Florida, Charlie Crist, has signed an executive order temporarily suspending the usual licensing requirements for traveling US nurses.Â
Crist and the Florida Nurses Association say the measure is a result of the January 12 Haitian earthquake. So many Florida nurses have volunteered to help in Haiti that there was a real possibility of a temporary nursing shortage within the state of Florida. Â
The executive order suspends the usual licensure by endorsement requirements for traveling nurses for a period of 90 days. The Florida Department of Health will issue expedited licenses to otherwise qualified American nurses instead.
