This decadent smoothie is perfect for nurses because it does double duty: It’s your coffee fix and a filling breakfast, all in one glass. What a way to rev up!
Mocha Java Smoothie
INGREDIENTS
(makes 1 serving)
11/2 teaspoons sugar
1 rounded teaspoon instant espresso or 1 shot of espresso
1 teaspoon unsweetened natural cocoa powder
2 tablespoons boiling water
1 cup nonfat milk
1 ripe banana, peeled, cut into
chunks, frozen
1/2 cup ice
DIRECTIONS
In a small bowl, stir together the sugar, instant espresso (if using) and cocoa powder. Add the boiling water and stir until dissolved. (If using regular espresso, stir the sugar and cocoa into the coffee until dissolved.) Combine the coffee mixture in a blender with the milk, banana and ice, and blend on high until smooth.
Tip: To ensure your a.m. routine goes smoothly, put all of the ingredients, except the frozen banana and ice, in the blender jug the night before, cover and refrigerate. In the morning, add the frozen ingredients and whir.
