Weird and Miscellaneous Work
Nursing certainly has its “how did I even get here?” moments. But how about these?
“I actually sold socks at expo centers,” says CNA Christine D. Lee. “Let’s just say it wasn’t the socks that kept me in that job!” Brenda Ortega Padilla was an assistant project engineer in a construction company and one day found herself completely surrounded by “lots of testosterone.” Perhaps by swinging the other way she became a nurse!
Ever heard of a restroom compartment company? Floridian Kelly Ruggles Gale worked for one—not to mention a garbage truck repair company.
Jean Wiggins from Savannah, Georgia, tried her hand at being a casket trimmer. She fondly remembers the job for the fact that no customers complained. 🙂
Some odd jobs definitely require buckets of humility. Kimberly Messer from Tennessee worked for a Bass pro shop. “I had to dress up as an elf and pass out candy and send the kids over to Santa!” Jenna Blue Robbins was a kids salad bar hostess at Sizzler before becoming a nurse. “I was personally responsible for escorting the little monsters to their own wee-sized salad bar and helping them plate up. It was fun at first…then you realize how many people don’t discipline their kids! How adults could encourage kids to food-fight is beyond me.”
