4. If you’re interested in what goes into the making of a food critic, check out Jeffrey Steingarten’s book The Man Who Ate Everything. He begins with the story of how he learned to love food he’d previously hated (Indian desserts, Greek food and kimchi) and moves on to the adventure of butchering an entire pig in his very small New York City apartment. In between he discusses fat-free food and the best way to make pie crust. There are recipes included.
