Bomb Squad Called to Hospital After Patient Arrives With WWII-era Artillery Shell in His Rectum

A hospital in the United Kingdom called in the bomb squad after a patient arrived with a World War II artillery shell lodged in his rectum.

The unnamed patient, who collects military memorabilia, arrived at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital saying he “slipped and fell” on an anti-tank round. The man said he was clearing out his home when the incident occurred.

“The item had been removed prior to police arrival and the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were contacted,” said the authorities, who confirmed that the round was not live.

“It was a solid shot round. It was a chunky, pointed lump of lead designed to rip through a tank’s armor,” confirmed a source from the British Ministry of Defense.

A hospital spokesman told the paper, “As with any incident involving munitions, the relevant safety protocols were followed to ensure there was no risk to patients, staff or visitors at any time.”

The man was later released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. However, one doctor said that the man could have died if the bullet had pierced his intestines.
