This year marks the final season of Nurse Jackie, so if you need a new captivating nurse series to binge on, you may want to check out Australia’s ANZAC Girls.
The six-part miniseries focuses on five Australian nurses serving on the front lines of World War I. The stories come from the real diaries, photos and letters of nurses of the time period and tell of their relationships with each other and the soldiers in their care.
The New York Times says that you may want to watch the show if you enjoy Call the Midwife and Bomb Girls, but “you wish those shows provided more in the way of gaping wounds and deadly infectious disease.”
However, the series is gorgeously shot, providing tons of period details. It’s a great look at a time in nursing history that is not often explored, presented as an intriguing soap opera.
You can watch the series on Acorn.tv, and it is also available on DVD. You can check out a trailer for the miniseries in the video below.
