A spa day for nurses

PEDICURE

“My feet were hurting; they really needed some TLC,” says Juarez. Rx: exhale’s Pure Pedicure. A special organic lavender scrub and a ginger mask work in tandem to slough away the dead cells and soften calluses that come with the territory of a job that requires hours on her feet.

Priscilla Juarez

A first-time mom
As if her job weren’t stressful enough, anticipating her new role as a working mom made her pregnancy that much more intense. Juarez, 26, is thankful for the support of her friends and family—“just being with them is a huge outlet for me”—and is especially grateful to her brother. He knew she needed the healing power of a spa and gave her a gift certificate for a pre-natal massage, which she used the day before she went into labor. “It was so relaxing that I told myself, ‘I could definitely get a massage once a month,’” she says. “And here I am again!”

At-home spa tips: Feet first

A foot massage may be the ultimate aphrodisiac! Add the right products and some neat’ning, and those tired tootsies are ready to go overtime.

Relieve arch pain. Stand with your feet hip-distance apart. Place a tennis ball under one foot, put your weight on it and roll it around, recommends exhale massage therapist Mary Levsha.

Keep feet smooth and supple. Despite long shifts, it’s easier than you think! A scrub with natural granules that dissolve, such as sugar, can slough off dead skin and keep feet in tip-top shape. Choose a scrub in a scent that relaxes, such as lavender.
