By The Associated Press reports that the nation’s two largest nurses’ unions have finally established a truce over years of acrimonious relations. The 1.8 million member SEIU (Service Employees International Union) and 85,000 member California Nurses Association / National Nurses Organizing Committee have agreed to work together in pushing for universal healthcare and labor reforms.
“It’s much more than a truce,” said SEIU president Andy Stern. “It’s really trying to establish a partnership at a moment of profound change in our country.”
Will these unions really be able to bury the hatchet after years of what’s been described as ‘interference’ in the others’ affairs and ‘raiding’ each others’ membership coffers? Or could this truly be a new, powerful coalition working together towards shared goals?
