Nurses should have people singing about them! Yet, there aren’t many (or any?) songs written for nurses.

How could this profession be so neglected? Here are five classic songs “reworked” to fit our needs. And who knows—maybe a Grammy nomination for 2011?
1. “Bye Bye (Nurse) Friends”
Our first song comes from the Everly Brothers’ classic “Bye Bye Love.” Use the lyrics below to sing along to the YouTube video!

Bye bye friends
Bye bye overtime, hello retirement
I think I’m-a gonna cry-y
Bye bye love, bye bye loud call bells, and all those yucky smells
I feel like I should cry-y
Bye bye my friends, goodby-eye

There goes his BP, chaos ensues
I’m definitely not happy, he sure looks blue
He was your patient till I stepped in
Goodbye to break time that might have been

I’m-a through with working, I’m a-through with shifts
I’m through with a’countin’ the minutes left
And here’s the reason that I’m so free
I have the winning ticket of the lottery

Bye bye my friends, goodby-eye
Bye bye my friends, goodby-eye

FADE: Bye bye my friends, goodby-eye
Bye bye my friends, goodby-eye
