Howard University has partnered with Pearson, the world’s largest education publisher, to launch Howard University Online, which will include an expansion of the school’s online nursing program.

This news is not an anomaly. The number of online nursing programs has increased dramatically from just a decade ago as more and more nurses are choosing the online path, particularly when they are earning advanced degrees. You can find out more at our Nurse’s Guide to Nursing School, which shows what schools offer online programs.

“This meets our changing student demographic, our mission and our international activities,” said Dr. Wayne Frederick, provost and chief academic officer at the Washington, D.C.-based Howard, to Information Week/Education. He also said the partnership will be used to improve faculty aptitude with the online programs.

Nurses, have you had experiences with online study? Sure, it delivers on convenience, but does it really match classroom learning? What would you look for in an online program vs. in a classroom learning environment? What do you think the future of nursing education holds? We want to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
