If you haven’t noticed, I’m bald. By choice. Many moons ago I started to lose my hair (over a single summer season). I decided back then that I was going to follow the “all or none” principle. I either wanted all of my hair or none of it. Once I became “follicly challenged,” I took the razor to my scalp.
Heh heh….
Almost 20 years later I’m still shaving my head, and I love it. I seriously wouldn’t know what to do if I had hair on my head. There are some major benefits to having the “chrome dome.” Here are five of them.
1. There’s no such thing as “bad hair days.” I mean, come on! This is by far the most valuable benefit. The weather is not my problem anymore. Humidity? No problem. Rain? No problem. Windy? Nooo problem.
2. You save money on haircuts, shampoo, hair products. I must admit, I didn’t spend a lot of money on these supplies prior to my love for the razor, but it’s still nice to not have to spend loads of money on the upkeep of my hair.
I will admit, I do spend a pretty penny on razors, though.
3. You never have to worry about going gray. Yeah, this goes without saying. I always enjoy the “gray” conversation with others. I usually hear others complaining about having to succumb to the ways of aging and purchase dye products. Ahh, the joys of no hair.
4. You become a walking thermometer (Measure the humidity: Will it rain? Snow?) This is no joke. I can tell you when there is a five- or ten-degree difference in the ambient temperature.
5. You get to sleep in. Guess who doesn’t have to wake up 20 minutes early to comb his hair, apply hair products or mess around with that “bad hair day” every morning? Yep, this guy.
Bonus Perk: As a nurse working on the floors, I don’t have to worry about “donning” and “doffing” of PPE gear messing up my hair!
I won’t lie—it’s quite nice being bald. But let’s not forget, a sunburn on your bare scalp is no fun. Trust me.
