Grab your tissues and get ready to “awww!” We’ve got one whopper of a love story for you.

On April 15, 2013, James Costello attended the Boston Marathon to support a friend who was running the race. As he waited on the sidelines for his friend to run by, two bombs exploded near the finish line. The shrapnel cut into his legs, and he suffered severe burns. He was able to limp away from the scene and make it to safety, but it would be a long road to total recovery.

Costello’s injuries required multiple surgeries and skin grafts, and he started treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital and then later required a transfer to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. While there, Costello met and fell in love with a traveling nurse who was temporarily assigned to the hospital, and his bedside—Krista D’Agostino.

Though Costello had a tough road to recovery and rehabilitation, D’Agostino worked with him through the entire thing and proved to be an ace partner—both in the hospital and in life. They tied the knot on Saturday, August 23 at the Hyatt Regency in Boston. You can see images of their wedding via the source link below.
