There are so many different channels, flavors, varieties and subgroups of Buddhism that I’ve stopped trying to keep track. Instead, I ask: Are you a vegetarian? A vegan? Is fish okay? How about dairy? How about eggs? If things get really tricky, there are a few people on the hospital staff that I can ask about dietary and religious customs, but it’s quicker to ask the patient.
