5 Most Common Effects of Stress On College Students

Stress has an immediate, short-term, and long-term effect on victims. It affects their emotional health, physical wellbeing, and socialization, among other aspects of life. Some of the effects are indirect and, therefore, likely to be missed.

The damaging effect of anxiety, stress, and depression should push every student to avoid such a fate. You can use a nursing assignment writing service for your assignments to reduce the stress that comes with academic work. You should also ask for help from your tutor or peers whenever you are stuck. Do anything to avoid stress because of the following damaging effects.

1. Reduced productivity

Stress pins you down. It takes away your energy and will occupy your thoughts. It has a paralyzing effect that will suck all the energy and motivation, leaving you inactive.

Stress also affects your productivity because you cannot concentrate. Whether you are in class or walking along the paths, you will miss the moment because you are occupied by pressuring thoughts. If you cannot concentrate on a task, you will lack the insight and working speed to meet targets.

Stress also takes away your productivity because you have no motivation to work. Your attention is divided between the task at hand and the issue stressing you. If you cannot concentrate, you will not deliver the expected results. Even the quality of your work will suffer because you lack the insight to deliver excellent ideas.

2. Poor health

Excessive thoughts will pump negative hormones into your body. Your system becomes toxic, and in the process results in poor health. When stress goes unattended, it results in depression, one of the mental issues that will affect every other aspect of your life.

Stress takes away your motivation. You do not want to take care of yourself and could even neglect your health. You fail to eat well or exercise. Such neglect will result in malnutrition or poor dietary choices. Your body cannot function without the right nutrients. Eventually, you cannot meet your obligations and will, therefore, end up emaciated.

Anxiety has been linked to nerve diseases. You become edgy and lose control over your limbs. Anxiety may result in paranoia, poor sleep, and inability to form strong social bonds.

Poor mental health is one of the most devastating effects of stress. You spend most of your time in solitude and deep thoughts. You cannot share the issues affecting your life. The issues end up eating you from within. You cannot function normally. You end up physically, mentally, and emotionally emaciated.

3. A dip in performance

College students have the sole responsibility of attaining good grades. Good grades come from a blend of paying attention in class, putting in extra study hours, delivering the best assignments and acing your exams. Stress will stop you from performing well in all these areas.

You cannot concentrate in class because you are lost in thoughts. You miss crucial explanations that cannot be found in books. You will need more study hours to revise because you never understood what was taught in class. All your time is spent on books yet you are not getting the desired results.

You will also perform poorly in areas that you excelled. For instance, lack of motivation and reduced physical activity will threaten your position on the athletics team. Your creativity will also reduce because your mind is always bogged down by thoughts. The insights in your play and social life will be gone.

4. Long term depression

Prolonged stress will result in depression. Depression has both short-term and long-term effects. You become antisocial and eventually isolated. You cannot even complete the small tasks that require collaboration.

Depression is a mental health issue that is difficult to manage and sometimes irreversible. It blocks your metal capacity such that ordinary issues become difficult to handle. For instance, you cannot hold ordinary conversations with friends and family. You cannot concentrate in class yet you used to be a top student.

Depression causes you to lose control of your thoughts and actions. You will need medication to concentrate in class. You may even end up mad and unable to fulfill your obligations. When depression becomes difficult to manage, you might end up at a mental facility. You will not achieve your academic or career goals.

5. Poor socialization

One of the benefits of attending college is meeting new people. You learn about other races, religions, nationalities, genders, and all diversities imaginable. Depression isolates you from all these people.

You want to remain holed in your room. You also do not want to open up about the challenges you may be facing. It causes other people to avoid you. Eventually, you have no one on your side which may result in suicide.

Stress is harmful to all aspects of your life. It will damage your physical, emotional, mental, and social life. Take every precaution to avoid stress and enjoy a healthy as well as productive life while in college.
