Nurses don’t have time. That’s just a given. This profession of ours takes all we have just to get through the day – and sometimes more. So when we nurses have the chance to make our lives more efficient, easy, and simple, we jump at the chance.
In an effort to help all of you nurses on the go who are short on time and long on tasks, we’ve put together a list of 20 of the most simple, handy lifehacks for nurses that will save you time, money, and energy. Check them out below.
1. Use Hydrogen Peroxide For Blood Stains
This trick is as old as nurse’s uniforms. If your favorite pair of scrubs has gotten stained, just add a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide to the stain and let it sit. Soak the garment, then wash as normal.
NOTE: This is better for white uniforms. To test hydrogen peroxide on a colored garment, put a drop in an inconspicuous area to see if it reacts and changes the color.
2. Use Alcohol Swabs To Prevent Nausea
Bodily fluids and bad smells can take their toll on nurses. Keep a couple alcohol swabs on you. If you’re feeling nauseated, rip open one of them and take a big whiff – the sterile, stinging smell will cut through other scents and help you stave off nausea.
3. Use Alcohol For Tangled, Messy Hair
Some patients who have been bedridden for a long time will end up with messy, knotted hair. Alcohol dissolves the oils that can cause hair to tangle. Pour a small-medium amount of alcohol into your palm and rub it into matted hair for several minutes. Untangle with a comb or brush
4. Use Vicks Vaporub For Extended Exposure To Nasty Smells
Sometimes a facemask just doesn’t do it. To prevent nausea or distraction from unpleasant smells, you can rub mentholated Vicks or a similar compound just around your nostrils. The clear menthol scent will overwhelm other odors.
