Cool Staycation Ideas

Here are some ideas for your staycation plans.

  • Check out your area’s outdoor attractions. Chances are, there are numerous state parks and state forest within a couple of hours of your home. You may even live relatively close to a national park. These are worth checking out and can make a great attraction to visit.
  • Visit local museums. Whether it’s a natural history museum, an art museum, or a war museum, chances are there’s something cool in your immediate area or a nearby city.
  • Check out a nearby zoo or aquarium. When was the last time you went to the zoo to see the animals or checked out the fish at a nearby aquarium? Chances are, there’s at least one zoo or aquarium within a couple hours of where you live. They’re a great option for enjoying a relaxing, leisurely day out.
  • Go see a play or an opera. You probably have a local community theater that puts on plays and musicals periodically.
  • Treat yourself to a spa day. Visiting a local spa is a great thing to do on your staycation to feel pampered and relaxed.
  • Try out some new recipes. Try cooking up something new and unexpected.
  • Indulge in some high-quality wine, craft beer, or fancy cocktails. Why not unwind with a nice drink? Try treating yourself to something a little higher end than usual, whether it’s important French wine or the latest craft beer from a trendy microbrewery.
  • Read some great books. If your local library kind of leaves something to be desired, check out online subscription services like Oyster and Scribd.
  • Engage in a fun DIY project. Try sewing, knitting, or planting a garden during your staycation.
  • Try one of those “Painting with a Twist” places. Many areas have these, and they go by different names. Basically, it’s a class where everyone paints the same thing, with plenty of wine and a relaxed atmosphere. It’s a great idea for a night out alone, with a partner, or with friends.
  • Check out a nearby amusement park or water park, if it’s the right season for it. Unless you live in central Florida or southern California, the big names like Disney World, Universal Studios, and Busch Gardens are probably out. But there are plenty of amusement parks and water parks nationwide, and chances are, there’s one within a couple hours of where you live.

Treat Yourself to Some Well-Earned Relaxation

Nurses are super-busy professionals, working crazy hours and irregular shifts to treat and heal the sick and injured. Sometimes, traveling just sounds like more of a hassle than it’s worth. Staycations are a great alternative, letting you genuinely relax as you enjoy your hard-earned vacation days.
